Overview

Road-Aware is a predictive safety system designed specifically for large truck operations. Road-Aware is the only predictive, driver-in-the-loop application that provides the driver with alerts and calculated safe speeds for upcoming difficult road geometries. 

By combining real-time vehicle data with advanced road geometry analysis, Road-Aware’s recommended safe speeds can prevent accidents before they occur, protecting drivers, passengers, and the public from truck-related crashes and fatalities. The safe speed calculations combine GPS information (position and speed) with vehicle dynamics (truck configuration and load) and accurate three-dimensional road geometry to provide calculated safe speeds for the driver to safely navigate through difficult road geometries such as curves and slopes. The alerts (audible and visual) and recommended speeds are provided with sufficient lead time to allow the driver to take corrective action. Road-Aware transforms truck safety from reactive to predictive.

Road-Aware is powered by a proprietary, national database of road curvatures and slopes plus geometric features such as freeway entrances, exits, connector ramps and others. These features are geolocated in three dimensions. The Horizon Engine in the Road-Aware app uses vehicle dynamics algorithms applied to the upcoming road geometry together with truck position, configuration, load condition and speed, to calculate the recommended safe speeds (RSS) and issue the alert for the driver.
